BackTo20/20 And The Eye Guru’s Privacy Policy

Informal, simple no legalese, here’s what I collect when you visit BackTo20/20:

Google Analytics

I generally use GA for tracking visitor behavior.  This is one aspect to help me improve the usability of the site, by seeing what links, pages, and resources most students do (or do not) use.

GA contains only anonymized data (complying with GDPR), so I don’t actually know what you specifically are using, but rather just behavior patterns from students overall.

Facebook Pixel

Facebook offers analytics data (hey, don’t we all know about this one!), that I’ve actually been trying to avoid as much as possible.  However it’s included in some of the code of plugins I use to make the site work, so there’s sadly no (reasonably feasible) way around it.

If you want to remove tracking, I personally like DuckDuckGo’s privacy plugin.

Logins, Session Use

The system keeps track of all your logins and session use.  This also is meant to help me improve the sessions, combined with feedback from the support forum.  In the past I’ve spent a fair bit of time gathering feedback on sessions that were read more than others, sessions that had more time spent on than others, things that contributed quite a bit to improving the sessions overall.

I track logins to be able to see whether you’re able to use the program effectively.

A lot of this is getting limited use today, though I hope to one day add more code to be able to alert me of students that aren’t logging in at all, to be able to follow up and find out if there are any issues.

Log Data

Any log data you enter, is of course stored.  I don’t share, sell, or otherwise leverage any of this data, ever.  (also true for everything else here, as far as your data is concerned)

I may at some point use anonymized versions of the log data for a basis of a study on myopia control.  If/when that happens I’ll notify you regardless, since even with anonymized data I’ll want to make sure that you’re ok with being part of a study discussing natural myopia control.

Payment, Sign-Up, E-Mails

When you sign up for the program, only the payment processor receives your payment data.  At no time do I ever have access to your credit card number or payment details (yay, one less responsibility).

I do get access to data about approved and declined payments, and obviously payment history, IP address, and general data to help reduce fraud attempts.

I get your e-mail of course, though at this point I’m not using it – other than automated messages if you decide to get notified about support forum threads, or payment specific updates.

IP Address And Browsing

I do employ a firewall system that tracks and forwards IP addresses (only, without any personal data) to the firewall service provider.  This is a paid system (that’s how they make money, rather than somehow trying to mine data).  The goal is to keep the site free of hackers, which is always a concern with Internet things.

I spend a fair bit of time and money to keep the site secure, above is an important countermeasure to all the a**holes online trying to scam all of us.
