No changes / reductions for at least 3-4 months! That’s the minimum time for the biology to fully adapt.
Yes, there is no easy way to know. Best is to be positive and playful and just casually keep track of acuity over time. In a month or two it should be fairly stable. He might also be trying to please you and partake in the game and it’s still very early.
Easiest way to tell if gains are “real” is low light conditions. But again, don’t question or push him at all, it will take a month or two for adjustments to become stable. 😉
