Wow. My program went to hell in a hand basket over the last month.

I hit a wall of stress, and I don’t think I logged in once.

To the uninitiated, it may seem that doing “eye exercises” is simple and you should just do it, right? Just have a little discipline!!

    Well….Ha!

Here’s what I learned, about myself, anyway:

In reality, I am building entirely new habits, new ways of thinking. An entirely new relationship with my eyes and, truly, with myself. In a subtle way, this requires a considerable amount of energy, in my experience. And this all went out the window when I just didn’t have the extra energy to give to the program. 🙁

I feel that the visual system is intimately involved with physical, mental and emotional self-regulation, and as such, can take a lot of my energy to change these deeply ingrained subconscious habits. Especially for me, since I have decades of high myopia.

Anyway. I’m typing this during the one and only time I can think of where I really, actually can NOT do any distance work. It’s not that I have to prioritize something else first (like work). I can’t do distance work so at least I am sitting here in the darkish room (hint!!) and reviewing the information I need to start progressing again.

Yes, so here goes. I’ll stop amusing myself and get to the point.

I can’t do outdoor or distance work for the moment because my pupils are big as saucers because I just had the dreaded annual retina exam…..

    The verdict is….

    No new degeneration!!
I have about 6 spots of lattice degeneration (total? On each eye? I’m not entirely sure). But they didn’t change at all.

No macular degeneration, optic nerve looks healthy, no nothin’ else bad…
And my eyeball pressures actually decreased, from 14 to 12 (normal range is 10-20). Yay!!!

And the retina doc said “Your eyes look great!” YAY!!! Now, I know they may not be “great” by endmyopia standards; BUT, at least they are nowhere near the dreaded outcomes I had to stop myself from imagining (especially since my poor dad is still currently going slowly blind).

The myopia hasn’t improved one bit. I’m still roughly at -7 (dark room) in both eyes with no astigmatism. But that’s not surprising as I haven’t been doing the program at all for about a month. Nor have I been getting outside much. I have been wearing the differential for close work though, without fail; and I have been doing some distance work as I can. And always working on having less screen time.

In a week, I’m leaving on a 3 week vacation. (Is anyone here in Iceland or London?? Would you like to meet up?)
No work involved, this time. Whew.

Some of it will be in a seminar (which I booked before I was even aware of endmyopia) that includes movement, experiential anatomy, neuroanatomy, and some Bates principles….that’ll be interesting. In any case, I’ll have tons of outdoor time, and lots of time on the plane to review endmyopia stuff. And no work!!!!!

    Anyway! There’s my check in!
Going to review the lessons over the next few weeks and get myself gently back on track. 🙂
Probably have to dial it back a bit to make sure more of it sticks this time.

    May 2015:
    Full prescription -7 R, -6.75 L no astigmatism
    Normalized: -6.5 R, -6.25 L
    For near work: -5.5 R, -5.25 L

      Hi Andrea!

Was actually just thinking of you in the airport the other day, wondering what happened with the sudden radio silence. And here you are. 🙂

Sounds like you’re doing ok. It’s really super important to not look back and think ‘oh I should have been doing this and this and this’. Not beating ourselves up over things that can’t be changed. As long as you come back when you’re ready and feel good, read a session, follow the guide, and then do that again when you’re ready for the next one … then everything will work out just fine.

Took a long time to get to high myopia. Small changes, big impact over a longer window of time. Not working in the dark rooms, a little focus pushing here and there, the things the early sessions talk about, they all add up to notable progress down the line!

Also congrats, super great that there’s no degenerative signs with those eyeballs. Everything else, well under your control.

Hey, thank you for the encouraging words.
It’s been awful to actually feel my eyes worsening slightly in the past month. I’m glad to be back.

      Quick question:

My current full strength prescription is -7/-6.75.
I tend to only wear that for driving at night.

Current normalized is .5 diopters lower, so -6.5/-6.25.
This works for most other medium to long distance stuff (besides night driving) though I can tell that it recently has become a bit weak.
Current differential is -5.5/-5.25. Works OK for computer. Have to remind self to hold iPad farther away.

I spend a lot of medium distance time wearing the -6.5s, which work ok for medium distance.

Are those diopters decent for me for the time being?
      What would you suggest?

Thanks again Jake. Love to hear others’ thoughts as well.

Yea that’s fine. Active focus, start framing those habits!
