    Hi Jake,

Topic-Increase in my daughter’s doctor’s prescription compared to last year.

    1) last time when she visited the doctor she was then wearing
    RIGHT: SPH(-7.00) ,CYL(+0.5) ,AXIS(O90)
    LEFT: SPH(-7.00) ,CYL(+0.5) ,AXIS(O90)

2)Doctor prescribed her on the visit
    RIGHT: SPH(-8.75) ,CYL(+2) ,AXIS(O95)
    LEFT: SPH(-8.75) ,CYL(+2) ,AXIS(O92)
I did not get her new prescription but used the same old glasses for normalized
    RIGHT: SPH(-7.00) ,CYL(+0.5) ,AXIS(O90)
    LEFT: SPH(-7.00) ,CYL(+0.5) ,AXIS(O90)
    For differential I used
    RIGHT: SPH(-5.75) ,CYL(+0.50) ,AXIS(O90)
    LEFT: SPH(-5.75) ,CYL(+0.50) ,AXIS(O90)

    Activities done to improve vision:
    1. she practiced active focus daily
    2. spent lot of time outdoors playing
    3. I could see great improvement in her cm measurement as well as her ability to read car numbers clearly from
    far with more comfort
    4. I shall also post her cm measurements again as I dont have the book with me now ,I would be back home in a
month and update you the same
    5. Good nutrition food

But when I visited ophthalmologist today ,I was shocked to see the result no increase in myopia but a very huge increase in astigmatism(almost 2 diopters) she said the prescription was for 20/25 vision

    RIGHT: SPH(-8.75) ,CYL(+3.75) ,AXIS(O90)
    LEFT: SPH(-8.50) ,CYL(+3.50) ,AXIS(O90)

1)she told if she would not wear full prescription ,she may risk of losing to see full clear images even with full prescription as her brain would not process it.

2)she said with astigmatism she would still be able to see well but not the correct angle which would disturb her

    3)but retina health is good

I need your opinion on below:

1)Could you guide me where am i stepping wrong which led to increasing in astigmatism

2)Should I increase astigmatism(CYL) for her normalized now from +0.5 and keep spherical same as -7.00

3)if so what would your suggestion be for increasing

4)as it will be heavy winter in my place Minnesota, she would not be able to practice active focus outdoors and also less sunlight exposure

5)with my given scenario how do I control astigmatism increase

Problem #1: Zero insights at all on your part on her vision noted here.

The optometrist is one data point. It’s also the people who cause the problem, so it’s certainly not the most relevant. This is why I say you need centimeter, eye chart, and real outdoor landmark logs to see how vision actually changed over time.

      Re: Numbers

      RIGHT: SPH(-8.75) ,CYL(+3.75) ,AXIS(O90)
      LEFT: SPH(-8.50) ,CYL(+3.50) ,AXIS(O90)

That cylinder is quite unrealistic. If astigmatism was this high, she would see nothing but double images everywhere. Also note that astigmatism doesn’t increase like this. Look at causes of astigmatism, mainly the cornea shape – this doesn’t change, especially not rapidly.

I’d say that measurement is unlikely to be accurate.

Also please convert to minus cylinder. Plus is not commonly used (except some ophthalmologists). With normal minus cylinder her spherical is at -5. That would make her cylinder 75% of her spherical values, which is extremely unlikely.

You’ve been here long enough to know about self measurement. Please please include logs and observations, don’t make us go on one-off measurements at a shop!
