    Hi Jake,
Here is my 10-year-old daughter’s progress update:

    History

    07/02/2021: L sp 1.50 cyl 0.25
    R sp 1.25
She still wears this correction all the time except close up,1.5 hr before school

    09/02/2022: L 3.00 Cyl 0.50
    R 1.75 Cyl 0.50
The optometrist suggested Atropine drops and MiSight to stop the progression, we never changed her prescription and scheduled an appointment with another optometrist 1 month later. while searching about Atropine drops, I came across your video and started our EndMyopia journey.

Her avg CENTIMETERS at the start of the EndMyopia journry WERE
    L 40cm R 66 cm

She stopped using glasses for close-up work AND stopped doing any close-up work after school. She always played outdoors for 3 hrs after school with her friends and we introduced Archery/tennis on weekends and made effort to keep her outside for 5-6 hrs on weekends. she did everything for 1 month.

10/01/2022: According to another optometrist her prescription was L sp 2.50 cyl 0.50 R 1.50 NO cylinder
    Avg Centimeters L 47 R 74
    Snellen L Easy 20/70 hard 20/50
R Easy 20/25 hard 20/20 with her old glasses.

This optometrist suggested us MiSight which we politely refused and told him about EndMyopia. He agreed to no glasses for closeup but suggested a full prescription for distance.

WE DIDN’T make any changes to her old glasses. FOR THE MONTH OF OCTOBER, SHE CONTINUED WITH HER HABITS(Peripheral vision awareness in the morning, staying at the edge of a blur for close up and no glasses, break after every 20 mins, maximum outdoors on weekends).

ACTIVE FOCUS: I am not sure if she has found her Active Focus because whenever I tell her to try she thinks it is a kind of pass/fail Activity so resists trying. but she told me she tries this at school and things clear up for a second and become blurry again. She told me 2-3 times during night time when she is in bed and only moonlight/outdoor light is coming in her bedroom, she can see everything clearly for a brief period(2 sec she says). We have a bookshelf in her bedroom and she couldn’t read titles before but she can read all the big titles in that duration. In her words, Everywhere she looks in the room is clear at that moment. I’ve stopped asking about Active focus to her now, Instead, I try to create a natural environment where she can try Active Focus without me mentioning the word “Active Focus”.Her Centimeters keep improving with habits and this weekend we were lying under a tree in our front yard and she was not wearing her glasses. She had her arm around her forehead to block the sunlight and her right eye was blocked with the arm(It was like her right eye was patched). We have fall season here in Canada. I started admiring the color changes of leaves and their patterns so she can challenge her left eye. First, she said she can’t see any pattern with her left eye. I kept admiring patterns and she said she is able to spot patterns and even holes between the leaves. All her observations were right. We did this for 10 mins and when we went inside, I took her centimeter reading, her left eye was at 63CM. Both of us looked at each other in disbelief.then She went outside to play as usual with her friends and during night time reading she could read the 20/40 line at Snellen chart with the left eye which never happened. with her right eye she can read 20/15 letters.
she noticed that she can read book titles on her bookshelf with her left eye as well. Her left eye seems to be improving as well.

we never changed her glasses and now her right eye lenses are too strong for her for sure and her left eye seems to be catching up. I need your advice regarding her normalized .

her avg centimeters now are L 55 cm(mostly around 58-60 in the afternoon), R 107cm
    estimated diopter L 1.81, R 0.96
her last year’s correction that she is still wearing Left sp 1.50 cyl 0.25, Right sp 1.25 No Cyl
Snellen’s results Right 20/15 in the last 3 weeks, Left 20/40 since 1 week in night indoor light and she can read better than this in natural light indoors like a few of 20/13 letters with the right eye and with left eye 20/40 becomes more clear like the lines of E and F alphabets become distinguishable.

Today after a most day spent outside she could read 20/25 with her left eye and all of 20/13 with her right eye.her centimeters were L 60cm R 120 cm.

I am thinking to change her glasses to R 1.00 and keep the left same 1.50 and drop the astigmatism correction as her left eye seems to be catching up. Please suggest what do you think about this. Also we have harsh winter months coming ahead so I’m worried about her progress but we always make effort to stay outside for 1-2 hrs in winter and this year we’ll try even more.

    Regards,
    Mandeep

      L 3.00 Cyl 0.50
      R 1.75 Cyl 0.50

Are these the glasses still used now?

      Or this:

      L sp 1.50 cyl 0.25
      R sp 1.25

      she still uses
      L sph 1.50 cyl 0.25
      R sph 1.25

We haven’t made any changes to her glasses so far

Noted. In that case ideally don’t increase the diopter ratio if possible.

Options are to wait till left eye is more caught up, or reduce both by 0.25. If the latter, a nice long zero diopter reset and no fanfare or comment about diopters being lower. Start the experience as positive as possible, ideally even with fun new frames. 🙂

      Hi Jake,

Thank you for your suggestions.I have a few questions

      1. With her current glasses she can see 20/15 with her right eye in indoor night light (150 lux) and 20/13 in natural indoor daylight. Her Left Eye is 20/30 in indoor night light (150 lux) and sometimes 20/25 in natural indoor light. If we keep her current glasses while waiting for her left eye to catch up, Does using 20/15 right-eye vision glasses all the time except for close up work affect her eyesight? like she watches TV from 6m with these glasses. Also, she can’t find any blur with her current glasses for the Active Focus

2 During the weekend when she took off her glasses to do her homework outdoors, she forgot to put them on and went 6 hrs straight without glasses outdoors. She only realized that she has no glasses when our neighbor asked about the glasses. During regular days when she takes off her glasses for morning reading, she goes 1.5 hrs without glasses until she reaches the school. The same thing happens in the evening when she takes off her glasses for reading, she doesn’t put them on till bedtime (around 1.5 hrs) . This gives me confidence that she would be ok with lower diopters.

3 If I choose to reduce diopters( 1 R ,1.25L), Should I keep the Cyl correction in the left eye. I’ve read so many times that sph and cyl reduction shouldn’t be done at the same time but since it is just .25CYL,Is it ok to let it go?

      4. Her Snellen chart readings are very encouraging with her left eye. She is clearing almost one line on Snellen chart every week but her centimeters are between 55-60 cm while her right eye centimeters are between 120-130.Should I start little bit of patching?

      Thank You!

I’d probably lower by 0.25 and the cylinder … really a question that’s hard to answer for sure. If they’re cheap to order get both and compare.

Normally it’s fine to let it go. It also being the higher diopter eye, it’s just maybe 80% likely. 🙂

A bit of patching, just as a game. 10 minutes is plenty, the trick is to make it fun and consistent.

      Hi Jake,

I am trying to get a reduced prescription from optometrist but no luck so far.I called few optical stores to make glasses for my daughter but all wanted optometrist prescription.I went to behavorial optometrist with a hope that atleast she would give me PD measurement. She measured her and according to her my daughter’s diopters are
      R 1.25 No cylinder
L 2.25 No Cylinder (YAY!!!!! the only positive that came out of these two days exhaustion to get reduced prescription)
I tried to convince her about reversing myopia she said that you can never reverse myopia,it is like trying to reduce height.when I told her that she was prescribed R sph 1.75 cyl 0.50 and L sph 3cyl 0.50 2 months before, she told me it was overprescription, when I told her she could only only read 20/70 with her left eye and now she can read 20/30 and her centimeters and overall vision is improved as well, she told me sometimes kids can over focus as their eyes are accomodative.Like Seriously 20/70 to 20/30 with accomodative vision?? At this point,I wanted to pull my hair.I gave up but still tried to be polite in a hope that she might give me reduced prescription. She said she could give 1 D for right eye( I know because her right eye measured better than 1.25 but she measured her old glasses first so she couldn’t give her 1 or less as it would prove her wrong),but not 1.25 D for the left eye as it is way too undercorrected and refused to give PD.I went to so many optical stores and 1 person agreed to give me PD for $10 but refused to give reduced prescription. But still it was a huge achievement for today.I wanted to buy glasses in person so that my daughter could see the fit but I have no option. So I’ll be ordering her glasses from zenni with fingers crossed. But these two days showed me how this glasses business work. so ridicilous even my daughter was laughing. It is big shame.

Thank you again for creating Endmyopia.I can’t thank you enough!

Have you looked at buying glasses online? Measuring PD is super simple at home.

You are the customer. We have to pick businesses who work for the money we spend, and support us!

Yes that’s great. Wearing sometimes just for the reference clarity should do fine.

Occasionally check eye chart. Once a week or two, nothing dramatic. If she gets lots of distance time her eyes may just adapt pretty quickly anyways.
